Nalbandian is ‘perfectly fit’ for Davis Cup final
Geneva, Switzerland - Argentine David Nalbandian started his preparation for the Davis Cup final on Wednesday in Geneva, and his doctors said that he is ‘in a perfect physical and mental state.’ ‘He is very well, all the analyses that we have carried out came out fine. He is perfectly fit,’ Angel Ruiz Cotorro, the player’s personal doctor, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur, dpa. World number 8 Nalbandian arrived in Barcelona from Shanghai on Monday, and underwent numerous studies until Wednesday morning. He hardly touched a racket, but he did keep working
on his daily physical fitness routine. ‘David is well mentally, and very much looking forward to the Davis Cup,’ Ruiz Cotorro said, adding that the physical tests were done at Nalbandian’s initiative. ‘He wanted to study his physical situation in order to programme his Davis days and to have everything under control.’ Nalbandian joined the rest of the Argentine Davis Cup team in Geneva on Wednesday, with captain Alberto Mancini and players Juan Chela, Agustin Calleri, Jose Acasuso and Guillermo Canas as a substitute. The Swiss city is expected to help the team to adapt to the cold and to the fast surface that Argentina will face in the Davis Cup final against Russia next week in Moscow. Argentina is seeking its first Davis Cup trophy. The last time it reached the final was in 1981, when they lost to the United States. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
