Florian Mayer and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez clinched quarter-final spots at the ATP Delray Beach Championship with victory in their round-robin matches today.
Garcia-Lopez, the No.7 seed seed from Spain, defeated Kristian Pless from Denmark 6-3 7-6 (7-5) while Mayer, the No.5 seed from Germany, defeated Andrei Pavel from Romania 6-3 3-6 6-2 to reach the knockout round.
Australian Open semi-finalist Tommy Haas, the No.2 seed, plays his first match of the tournament, against Lu Yen-Hsun from taiwan, later today.
Jesse Levine meanwhile defeated fellow American Kevin Kim 6-2 6-2 set up a showdown with No.4 seed Benjamin Becker from Germany for a quarter-final spot.
Alejandro Falla from Colombia also kept alive his chance of advancing alive by defeating another German player, Rainer Schuettler, 6-4 6-3.
Robert Kendrick, a first-match loser to No.1 seed James Blake, defeated Scoville Jenkins 6-4 6-4. But he is hope of reaching the last eight now relies on Jenkins defeating Blake tomorrow.
Ryan Sweeting meanwhile defeated Simon Greul from Germany 6-2 6-2. He next plays fellow American Vince Spadea, the No.8 seed, tomorrow for a quarter-final berth.
