AGUSTIN Calleri and Nicolas Almagro were among seeded winners at the $1 million ATP and WTA Abierto Mexicano Telcel tournament in Acapulco.
The No.2 seed Calleri advanced to the second round with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Alberto Martin of Spain.
Almagro, the No.3 seed, eliminated wildcard Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina, 6-3 6-4.
Almagro reached the semi-finals of last week’s claycourt event at Buenos Aires, losing to local favourite Juan Monaco.
He awaits the winner of the match between compatriot Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo and Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez.
Calleri and Almagro were among six seeds in action on the men’s side.
All eight women’s seeds also were in action, including top seed Marion Bartoli of France, who scored a straight-sets win.
No.5 seed Gaston Gaudio of Argentina advanced when Luis Horna of Peru was forced to retire in the first set.
The No.1 seed is Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero, who next faces the winner of the match between Czech Lukas Dlouhy and Italian Alessio Di Mauro, who lost to Monaco in last week’s final.
