Djokovic whips Murray to reach Miami final

Miami, FL - Surging Serbian Novak Djokovic dismantled Britain’s Andy Murray on Friday to reach the lucrative final at the $3.45 million Sony Ericsson Open — the second of nine ATP Masters Series events this year.The 10th-seeded Djokovic pasted a flat 12th-seeded Murray 6-1, 6-0 in a mere 62 minutes at Crandon Park. Djokovic will meet the Ivan Ljubicic-Guillermo Canas winner in Sunday’s title match. Ljubicic was last year’s runner-up here to the great Roger Federer.Djokovic walked all over a lethargic Murray, who committed five doubles faults

and had his serve broken five times in six service games. Murray had been playing some of the best tennis on tour in recent weeks, but he was not match for his Serbian counterpart here on Day 10.The 6-foot-3 Djokovic is now 3-0 lifetime against his fellow 19-year-old Murray, including a semifinal victory at the Masters Series event at Indian Wells just two weeks ago. The Serb also prevailed in their Masters Series bout in Madrid last season.Djokovic was the Indian Wells runner-up to Rafael Nadal earlier this month, but the young Serb avenged that setback this week by ousting the world No. 2 Spaniard in the quarters here.The Belgrade native Djokovic, one of the best young players on the ATP circuit, will appear in his sixth career ATP final (3-2), including his third already this season (1-1).On Friday night, a seventh-seeded Ljubicic will take on the unseeded giant- killer Canas. The qualifier Canas is 1-0 lifetime against Ljubicic, with the victory coming seven years ago right here at Crandon Park.Canas shocked the mighty Federer in the last two ATP events, as he stunned the amazing Swiss in straight sets earlier this month at Indian Wells and duplicated the feat here on Tuesday when he sent the superstar packing once again, this time in three sets.This week’s titlist will collect $533,350.© 2007 The Sports Network
