NO.2 seed Fernando Gonzalez defeated Italy’s Simone Bolelli in three sets to win the BMW Open in Munich.

It was Gonzalez’s 10th ATP title and his second of the year after winning at the Vina del Mar in his native Chile in January.

Gonzalez took the first set on a 7-4 tiebreak, but then squandered two match points to suffer a reverse when he lost the second set tiebreak 7-4.

But the former Australian Open finalist broke Bolelli’s serve in the fifth game of the third set and went onto win 6-3 in just over two and a half hours.

The 22-year-old Bolelli, ranked 58 in the world, made the final after knocking out top seed Paul-Henri Mathieu of France in the semi-final after a marathon three-hour battle.

In contrast, Gonzalez, 27, had beaten qualifier Younes El Aynaoui, 36, from Morocco in the other semi.
