AN Australian tennis star has been arrested over an alleged date rape, British tabloid The Sun reports. Paul Hanley, 30, is on bail after a woman in her 20s accused him of sexual assault, the paper reports.

The Sun says the pair went to Hanley’s home after meeting at a bar near the All England Club in Wimbledon, London.

A spokeswoman for the UK’s Metropolitan Police confirmed an allegation of rape had been made in the early hours of March 8.

Hanley, who specialises in doubles tennis, split with long-time doubles partner Wayne Arthurs in 2006 and now plays with Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe.

His highest doubles world ranking to date has been No.6, but he is currently ranked 16.

Hanley is Australia’s second-highest money earner on the professional tennis circuit behind Lleyton Hewitt.
