The 7 Deadly Sins of Tennis

Tennis can be a tricky sport when you’re just starting out. The following 7 beginner mistakes are what I believe to be the biggest challenges for the novice. Address these issues and you’ll be improving in no time.

1. Not Judging The Ball

It’s very common for a beginner to lack judgment in where the ball is going to go and how fast it’s going to get there and play appropriately. A beginner often thinks the ball is going to be shorter than it actually is. They rush to the ball and consequently hit the ball to hard and are off balance when they get there. They don’t realise that the ball will actually fly deeper.

Mental Toughness - Serve it Good

Players holding serve isn’t always about having the biggest, and fastest serve. The key to the best servers is they have very good second serves. The placement keeps the opponent off balance, or off the court. The serve also keeps the opponent out of there strike zone so advantage goes to the server. When you have a great second serve it automatically allows you to go for more on your first serve, and get free points. A common saying “You’re only as good as your second serve.” This saying is the truth.

The second serve can only be good if you

Tennis was reintroduced to the Olympics at Seoul in 1988 and winners have not always enjoyed the profile given to gold medal winners in other sports. The status of this year’s tournament has been raised by the presence of the top five ranked men and women. Only two players from each top 10 - Andy Roddick and Richard Gasquet from
